I haven't posted on my blog as much as I used to, and as a consequence, one of the first botanical paintings I did over two years ago, a chocolate daisy, was the first thing I saw when I started to come back to this site.
I was horrified. But then I realized that that is the wrong way to look at it. It is always good, I think, to take stock of where we've been, and where we are now, and the distance between those places.
I did another painting of the same plant this summer and entered it into the American Society of Botanical Artists' "Small Works" exhibit at the annual meeting in San Francisco. Compared to the other works in the exhibit, mine was a pretty humble offering. Compared to where I started, however, I can see my progress. Here they are:
