&*^$%# Squirrels

They chewed not one, but five nine* of these holes in my hose last week:

Every time I'd repair one, they'd chew another.

I am fed. UP.

Time to get serious.

*I found more as I was repairing today's damage.

  1. That's bad! Very bad. Good luck in your battle with the squirrels.

  2. Grrrrrrrr. Those squaskelly squirrels! We had to resort to a live trap and transportation (unfortunately, not to Australia) with a particularly pesky squirrel once. It resisted the trap in an uncanny fashion till our daughter had the brilliant idea to use a tulip bulb as bait.

  3. If you are a meat eater they make up into a very good squeirrel and dumplings. A small dog will often work at keeping them at bay. Do you have water that they can get to or are they eating the hoses to get to the water?

    Anyway good luck.

  4. David, it is illegal to hunt them in our county. I don't think they are after the water, since they seem to chew on the hoses even when I have water out for the birds.

I think they just do it to annoy me.

  5. Jason had a problem with squirrels packing irrigation lines with tiny leaves a rolled up like cigars... we are thinking they may have be Cuban squirrels... or gangster cigar smoking squirrels.

  6. I sympathise. They are are a constant source of interest and annoyance in my garden. Fast learners too - especially in discovering ways to drive a gardener crazy!

  7. I too sympathize...I know they're cute and all that, but they sure as heck are destructive. If they get into the house, they're a huge problem. We have one hanging around here, and I'm considering letting all the cats outdoors for an afternoon to encourage hiim to move along to other locales.

  9. Ugh! I live in Squirrel Ridge...they outnumber every other living creature! They have been sawing off my daffodils and hellebore...not just the tulips (which of course, they have those, as well). They eat the tops off everything and I just ordered squirrel-repellant granules to sprinkle around...and a trap from Havahart. Am waiting to receive them in the mail to try them out! This will end up being a DAILY trip to release them someplace but I, too, am fed up. Sorry about all the damage!
